It's basically a self-contained unit of code that you can reuse in many applications. Most modules end in ".pm" - if you see "use XXX;" in a Perl script, there's a corresponding module, XXX.pm

If you've been into Perl for a while, you'll soon get into modules. There are tens of thousands ready-available, you obtain them at a site called CPAN (cpan.org) and they're a fantastic time saver. The first rule is - check if someone has written a module that does what you want before trying to do it yourself!

For biologists who use Perl, you can't beat the Bioperl modules (bioperl.org). With Bioperl experience, you could easily solve your sequence splitting problem in a few lines.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32079676.post-1157741351660434662006-09-08T11:49:00.000-07:002006-09-08T11:49:00.000-07:00PERL seems very complicated!!!and no, I didn't gro...PERL seems very complicated!!!

and no, I didn't grow the cells with antibiotic in the medium when I made the freezer stocks.

I have about 6 tubes of the freezer stock. It seems useless as far as learning how to get it running properly using the command line. I have a couple of ideas and can try them out.90% microbehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10288595333674587852noreply@blogger.com
