The meeting on Sex and Recombination that was to be held in Iowa City next week has been canceled because of severe flooding! (And just when I was getting my talk pulled into shape too...)
I suspect I'm not the only one who planned to combine that meeting with the big Evolution meetings in Minneapolis, June 20-24. I'm flying into Minneapolis on June 15. If you'd like to get together with me or other sex-refugees, post a comment below and we'll see what we can organize.

Great idea! I live in Minneapolis, and am happy to help organize/coordinate.
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Maurine
Two of us from Oregon (Jennifer Anderson and Levi Morran) would love to meet in Minneapolis. However we need to know before the end of the day tomorrow if it looks like we (the Sex Refugees) can pull this off.
ReplyDeleteI would be totally interested but please let me know if possible well in advance at least the tentative dates and time so that I can make necessary living etc arrangements.
ReplyDeleteSujal'
I'd also be glad to join you, since I came all the way from Portugal and I'm already close by (sort of), in Madison, WI...
ReplyDeleteI'm hailing from State College, PA, and currently have tickets to fly into Cedar Rapids IA on Monday - is anyone else going to be driving from IA to MN next week, or should I try to change the tickets so I fly directly to MN?
ReplyDeleteHmm, there's not very many of us... I gues most people ad more flexible travel plans.
ReplyDeleteHow about we just plan on meeting up for a long scientific lunch on June 20? Maurine, can you pick a time and place and post it here?
I'll be glade to meet everyone in Minneapolis. I'll come to USA tomorrow night, anyway.
ReplyDeleteDiego
Hi everyone,
ReplyDeleteLunch on the 20th won't work for me, but how about breakfast? I will figure out a time/place (walkable from campus) and post it here. Melissa, fly into Minneapolis if possible. I came back up here from Iowa City yesterday, and many roads are already closed. I am worried that you will be stuck in Cedar Rapids.
See all of you soon. Safe travels.
Maurine
Thanks for the warning Maurine. Northwest was nice enough to change my destination (but not date) of the tickets, so I'll actually fly into omaha and stay with family there for a few days before catching the greyhound to Minneapolis. :)
ReplyDeleteBest,
Melissa
Hi again,
ReplyDeleteMy suggestion for breakfast on Friday is to meet at the Dinkytowner (412 1/2 14th Ave. SE; http://www.dinkytowner.com/) at 9 AM. I'm not sure how many people ended up being stuck here, so please respond to this post ASAP if you are interested.
Maurine
Hi everyone,
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't sound as though we have a critical mass to have breakfast tomorrow, so I'll just plan on seeing everyone at the meetings.
Cheers,
Maurine
Hi Maurine,
ReplyDeleteThanks for trying, and sorry I didn't reply sooner - I've been driving around Minnesota for the past few days and haven't been online.
I'll look for you at the meeting.
Rosie
